How to get a free tailored meal plan from a nutritionist

Food is fuel. But sometimes it’s difficult to know exactly what you should be eating, how much of it, and at what times.

The internet is awash with information about eating habits, and food. Unfortunately, so much of this is generalised, and when it comes to nutrition, everybody is different.

What is extra support?

Nowadays, when you take out life insurance, you don’t just get covered by your policy. Many of the leading life insurance providers in the UK offer free additional benefits when you take out cover with them*.

If you’re on the hunt for life insurance, or if you’ve had a policy for years, make sure you check what you’ve got included with your cover.

You should know that, more often than not, these benefits are extended to your family too, meaning that yourself, your partner, and your kids can use them too.

How it works

Today we’re talking about Smart Health, which is AIG’s all singing, all dancing, free app.

Smart Health is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, at no additional cost. Access to this app is given to each and every AIG customer who takes out a life insurance policy with them. AIG’s Smart Health is made up of six core features:

  • Tailored meal plans designed by a team of nutritionists
  • Second medical opinions
  • 24/7 virtual GP appointments
  • Mental health support
  • Personalised fitness plans created by sports coaches
  • Online health checks

How to get your AIG meal plan

1. Firstly, you need to start by downloading the Smart Health app on either the App Store or Google Play. You can use the website too but the app is super handy.

2. Next you’ll need to complete a questionnaire. Don’t worry, it’s really quick and won't take you long at all. You’ll need to provide information about your current health, what your goals are. They’ll also need to know about any allergies or food sensitivities you have.

3. Once you’ve popped all your details in, you’ll get contacted by one of our expert nutritionists. They’ll chat with you so they can learn more about your eating habits. Expect questions about your snack choices, eating habits, favourite ingredients, and any bad habits you’ve gotten into (if any).

4. Your information will be assessed so they can create a tailored meal plan, suited to you, and your unique eating habits. Your meal plan will be packed full of meal and snack ideas, all personalised to you, and your needs. They may also want to catch up with you after a few weeks, to see how you’re getting on!

Smart Health could make all the difference

Whether you want to get fitter, confirm your diagnosis, or even speak to a therapist - Smart Health could support you. For some families, Smart Health has made all the difference.

One of our customers, Dionne, came to us for help taking out her life insurance back in 2019. After choosing a critical illness policy which also covered her children, Dionne never expected to claim on her cover so soon.

Who would have thought that Smart Health would be instrumental in her claim journey?

After noticing some changes in her daughter, Sky, and worried about her health, Dionne trusted her instincts and sought help.

Dionne remembered she had access to free, 24/7 virtual GP appointments with AIG. Within a matter of minutes, she’d booked an appointment on the Smart Health app.

Managing to get an appointment that same day - later that evening a UK-based GP called Dionne back. The online appointment that followed was a defining moment in getting Sky on the path to a speedy diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes.

How it worked for Dionne

During her online appointment with Smart Health, Dionne was amazed at how easy it was. “They diagnosed it on the phone and believed diabetes is what it was - they also cleared any red flags which put my mind at ease. During the appointment, they advised me to go to my own GP the next day and take urine samples with me and request blood tests.”

AIG really sped things along for Dionne and her daughter, “The online appointment helped me get the ball rolling with the doctors as I already had a provisional diagnosis - it got them to act quicker. If I had waited for my GP appointment, I would have been waiting for at least two weeks - I don’t know what might have happened in that time.”

Smart Health made all the difference, “I was very grateful for my online appointment which was really easy to book too. I had forgotten all about it, and remembered whilst I was lying in bed worrying. It helped get us her diagnosis so I really am grateful. The rest is history really!"

How does life insurance work?

So you’ve learnt about the free additional benefits you can get included in your cover. But why do you need life insurance in the first place?

Life insurance could make all the difference, if the worst were to happen to you. Depending on what type of policy you have, your cover could pay out a lump sum of money.

The pay-out from your policy could make all the difference for you and your family, helping them afford the things they need to get by. With a policy in place, you’ll have peace of mind that after you’re gone, your loved ones would be financially looked after.
